Success is when the end result is achievement/victory and a triumph change has taken place. EOCDC (soon to be known as “Horizon of Hope of the Oranges, A Family Care Center”) is proud to be have participated in this exemplary project, Shaping NJ, through Overlook Hospital and in meeting everyone involved in changing lives through their projects. A success story of surprise for us is many of our Nutrition Class participants now volunteer in our food pantry 2-3 days of the week. The class participants are happily living healthy eating and food preparation lives that they share with family, friends and others. But our greatest news is that the City of East Orange has approved the patch of land for our vegetable garden!!! Our homegrown vegetable garden is being prepared for next spring/summer planting and we are extremely happy! We also look forward to partnering with Oasis Urban Farms in Orange to share our produce.
Our summer day camp ended on August 14, 2015 with the nutritional class parents preparing a festive nutritional cookout for the campers and staff with such foods as salmon, shrimp, corn on the cob, Zucchini, etc.
As we move towards the end of the summer and fall begins we will continue prepping our
community garden and hope to share the progress with you here. Thank you to everyone this has been a great experience.
