Catholic Charities YES Program- New Brunswick
The Catholic Charities YES Program held our culminating event “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities” Day this past Saturday April 11th from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Over 100 people were in attendance at the event with approximately 65 families. This was a great turnout for our first event.
Without support from our partners, volunteers, and staff the day would not have been a success. Some of the events of the day included: Fitness Fun Bus, face painter and animal balloonist, music provided by DJ Lady C, and Zumba provided by Robert Wood Johnson Fitness & Wellness Center. Vendors who provided valuable information on health, wellness, and fitness included: PRAB, New Brunswick Fire Department, Saint Peter’s University Hospital, Smile Express, United Healthcare, Unity Square, Middlesex Department of Public Health, Central Jersey Family Health Consortium, Elijah’s Promise, NJ SNAP-Ed, New Brunswick Community Farmer’s Market, New Labor, RWJ Fitness & Wellness Center, Catholic Charities DOM Mobile Family Success of Middlesex County, and Anshe Emeth Community Development Corporation. Healthy food was provided by Corazon Kitchen and Elijah’s Promise local to the area along with water.
Families had the opportunity to participate in Zumba and a dancing contest provided by our DJ. Additional donations of children’s bikes, car seats, and stuffed animals were raffled off to those who attended.
Volunteers included Catholic Charities agency employees, local teenagers, and the New Brunswick Fire Department. The YES Program family workers were an integral part of coordinating the many partners that participated in the event and through their outreach the event was a success.
