Expanding our focus on “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities” in 2015! Catholic Charities YES Program- New Brunswick

The Catholic Charities YES Program has been diligently preparing for our culminating event in April along with developing collaborations for our parent and child workshops focused around health and fitness. The progress towards our strategies has been enormous and we have begun to develop wonderful relationships!

Through our child and family workshops meeting our nutrition strategy we have developed a relationship with the New Brunswick Food Corps, New Brunswick Community Farmers Market, and Rutgers Nutrition Cooperative Extension (SNAP Ed Program) to name a few. Data collected from these workshops will be assessed through surveys, participation rates, and local/family engagement. Family workshops will vary in topics but will focus around nutrition, fitness, and well-being while the children will receive biweekly nutrition/cooking/gardening education, food focused gardening engagement, and culminating events.

Our Streets as Places event called “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities” has been scheduled for Saturday April 11th. This strategy is focused around developing new collaborations and relationships while educating the community on the importance of health and fitness. With over ten organizations participating in the event such as Elijah’s Promise, United Healthcare, RWJ Fitness & Wellness Center, Smile Express, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), St. Peter’s University Hospital, Rutgers 4-H, NJ Snap-Ed, Unity Square, New Brunswick Community Farmers Market, New Brunswick Police Department, NJ School Age Care Coalition, Anshe Emeth Community Development Corporation, Mobile Family Success of Middlesex County, County of Middlesex Department of Public Safety and Health, and the City of New Brunswick, the event is planned to be a wonderful opportunity to educate the community. Data will be collected based on the number of participants in attendance as well as continued partnerships focused on sustainability of these important topics.

We hope that you will come and join us on April 11th for our recognition of health and wellness in New Brunswick!
