2015 is underway and we are super-excited about the new Bike Way in Maplewood that is about to become a reality. Our Department of Public Works are currently in the process of marking out the necessary upgrades to township roads to make them more bike friendly. Why have we decided on a bike way for this year? Biking, great form of daily exercise, has become extremely popular over the last few years. And anybody can bike too! The possibility of local families biking together not only improves their synergy, but also increases their fitness level.
And we are not stopping there. The new bike way in Maplewood will have necessary signs, street markings, and bike racks for public safety and convenience. We also plan to provide educational materials that include information such as the important use of helmets. The plan is to coordinate with the police department to help get these educational materials out to the public. Lastly, we plan on distributing bike helmets to individuals through registrations.
After the completion of this project, we hope more people in our community will take advantage of these bike ways to promote a healthier lifestyle. Our primary goal is to increase Maplewood’s bike usage by 25% by the summer of 2015.
