Fall into Good Health

On August 28, Salem County Freeholder Bob Vanderslice, Chair of Health & Human Services, and Freeholder Ben Laury were on hand to inspect the walking path at the Salem County Recreation Park in Oldmans Township. The Freeholders were joined by Health Department staff and community members.  The county received a Shaping NJ grant to offset the cost of constructing a walking path. Freeholder Vanderslice stated, " this grant gives us an opportunity to expand the recreational offerings at the park."

The Salem County Department of Health and Human Services will hold a “Fall into Good Health”  community health awareness event on Wednesday September 24 at 5pm at the Salem County Recreation Park located in Oldman’s Township on the corner on Route 130 and Perkintown Rd. The County received  a grant through the statewide initiative Shaping NJ to construct the new walking path.

The event will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by the first walk on the path. Following the walk,  the community is invited to participate in NJ Rural Health Week.  The focus of this event is to encourage healthier lifestyles through exercise, diet, and prevention.

The Nursing Department will offer free glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure screenings. Information on Breast Cancer awareness, NJ CEED program, and our new STD/Vaccination clinic will be available.

Health Screenings

Our nurses hard at work providing essential health screenings to our community.

Office of Aging will have their mobile office unit on hand to answer any questions and will offer a project Healthy Bones exercise class.

The Emergency Preparedness /Health Education Department will offer emergency preparedness information and will be recruiting new members for their Medical Reserve Corp (MRC). A free yoga class, healthy cookbooks, fresh produce, and nutrition information will also be available.

Our New Food Corps Service Member,   Laura Pennington, has pumpkin painting and seed planting activities planned for the kids.

Rabies information will be distributed by our Environmental Department. To celebrate the health benefits of owning a pet, friendly dogs  are welcomed at our event.  A “Dog Shaming ” photo booth will be available to snap some pictures of your four legged family members.
