The Benefits of Walking

Construction of our walking path began Tuesday July 8th.The Salem County Department of Health and Human Services is committed to promoting a healthier lifestyle. According to the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute’s County Health Rankings annual report for 2011, Salem County ranks number 18 out of all 21 New Jersey counties in overall health factors. The new walking path at Salem County Recreation Park will encourage our community to participate in physical activity.

Walking for 30 minutes a day will help you build healthy lean muscle, lose fat, and increase your metabolism. The more steps you take the more calories you can burn.  It reduces your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Walking is not only good for your body, but also your mind. Walking boosts your brain power, promotes thinking skill, increases your endorphins improving your mood, and relieves stress. Walking 30 minutes a day promotes a healthier lifestyle and will greatly increase your chances of living longer.


Move Yourself! Salem County Walking Club

Salem County ranks among the highest in the state for adult obesity and lack of physical activity. The new walking path at Salem County Recreation Park in Oldmans Township will provide not only another trail for the Move Yourself! Salem County walking club, but an essential outlet for the community to increase their physical activity.
