Stake out the path

Hello everyone! Our new walking path project at Salem County Recreation Park is moving along. The park was recently cleaned up by the work release program sponsored by the Salem County Jail. The path was made visible after a survey done by the Salem County Engineer’s Office. Our new community walking path is now laid out with stakes dangling orange ribbon showing the beginning and end of the path.

On June 4th, I met with Bill Davis and Scott Woody from the Salem County Facilities Management. We walked the newly staked path and discussed the timeline for the walking path project to begin. The walking path is scheduled to begin construction in 1-2 weeks. Bill explained the process of building the path begins with digging out 10 inches of soil. The removed soil will fill in some low spots within the Salem County Recreation Park. The path will then be filled with stone and paved with a blacktop material. The ADA compliant path will be 6 foot wide and 1,200 feet long wrapping around a softball and soccer field.

Future events for the path are being planned including a grand opening and walks with our community walking club. Our community walking club partners with the Salem County Office of Disabilities to encourage residents with special needs to participate. The new walking path will become an essential part of our community.
