June is blossoming into a month of growth and change leading to sustainability for Shaping Elizabeth.
We have created a logo which expresses our vision for a Healthy Elizabeth where all members of the community have access to healthy nutrition, physical activity and preventive and ongoing medical care. Our logo is one of the first steps in our campaign to increase awareness of Shaping Elizabeth. The logo will be used on shirts, social media and perhaps someday our own Shaping Elizabeth website. All participants at the June 18th forum will be the first recipients of a Shaping Elizabeth t-shirt.
June 18th will see over 50 members of the community including representation from Freeholders, Medical Community, Education, City, County and State Offices, Residents and Community Organizations for the First Annual Shaping Elizabeth Forum “Why Should Your Zip Code Be a Predictor of Your Health?”
The Gateway Family YMCA CEO Krystal R. Canady, will facilitate the forum program including City of Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Key Note Speaker Darrin Anderson, Sr. PhD, Deputy Director, New Jersey Partnership for Healthy Kids and Joseph McTernan, Senior Director of Community & Clinical Services, Trinitas Regional Medical Center. Forum participates will chose an area of expertise – Access to Healthy Nutrition, Ability for Active Living, School Wellness and Community Health, each group will be led by Shaping Elizabeth Team Members through a series of questions which will lead to 2-3 priorities in each area.
After the forum our team along with support from an intern from Rutgers, Bloustein School will use the data, information and ideas to formulate our direction and strategy to address the highest priorities in order to combat childhood obesity, inactivity, unhealthy nutrition habits and community health for the next
