Garden Taking Shape Despite the Snow!

We are just waiting to see the first signs of spring here in Morris County! The Cooperative Garden of Morris County is a project of The Alliance for Morris County Parks and the Morris County Park Commission. Under a unique agreement, the garden will be constructed on county property and managed by a group of non-profit organizations in cooperation with the Park Commission to benefit the clients of those organizations and the community. Partners interested in the project include Homeless Solutions, Family Promise of Morris County, ARC Morris, Interfaith Food Pantry, CHAMP Housing, Saint Clares Hospital, the County of Morris Office of Human Services, NORWESCAP, NJ Aids Service, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension Service – Morris office. Grow It Green Morristown, operators of a very successful urban garden and community garden, have been very helpful throughout the process.  Our current efforts are focused on finding a garden coordinator and getting the Memorandum of Understanding signed by all appropriate participants. Soon we hope to be finalizing our fence contractor and purchasing materials and supplies. Last year, we were able to create the committee, locate the space, create the garden plan, and begin getting the word out for volunteers. This year, we will also be spending time learning about
managing a garden. Any information and assistance is welcome!
