Shaping Elizabeth Community Garden

Community Garden with ELR Participants

The Shaping Elizabeth Team has been working to find the best spot for our Community Garden.  Attached is a picture showing the location across the street from the YMCA of Eastern Union County, Elizabeth Branch at 135 Madison Avenue and families excited about the new garden.  Groundwork Elizabeth will provide the expertise for developing the garden, consisting of five to six raised beds.  In May or early June, after the last frost, a Garden Day will be planned using community volunteers to prepare the space for planting.

A dietician from Trinitas Regional Medical Center will lead nutrition classes for both our youth ages 3-5 years in Child Care and teens ages 13-17 years in our after school programs. Planting tips and healthy nutrition facts will be explored. The children and teens will take home tips and recipes to share with their families. Classes are planned to begin late March and will be held every other week until June.
